Come and explore the stunning beauty of the 30,000 Island Archipelago of Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada on 3 to 5-day kayak trips are designed to take you on a wilderness odyssey that will be the highlight of your summer vacation while learning and improving your kayak and wilderness camping skills.
Georgian Bay is a 100-mile-long bay of Lake Huron and the eastern shore of the Bay is dotted with literally 30, 000 islands. It is spectacular, to say the least. In fact, people that we take there for the first time often ask “Why do we keep this place such a secret?” In fact, the islands of Georgian Bay (and this is exactly where we will be on these kayak trips) are recognized by the UN as a unique littoral ecosystem of international importance….a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.
These 3 or 5-day kayak trips are intended for those people interested in experiencing the awesome wilderness beauty of the 30,000 Islands of Ontario’s Georgian Bay, “the best wilderness freshwater kayaking area in the world” while learning more basic and more advanced kayak paddling skills and wilderness camping techniques.
This trip will be led by our Professional Paddle Canada certified instructors / guides. They will teach you the appropriate kayak handling and paddling skills necessary for safe and confident flat-water kayak travel. You will learn wet exits, assisted and self-rescue techniques, strong powerful strokes that you can keep up all day without fatigue. What makes the best kayak design and materials for different types of trips. What gear is appropriate for kayak tripping and how to pack it. How to select and set up a good campsite for the time of the year, weather conditions, and group size. But don’t worry too much about spending an extraordinary amount of time sitting in the water listening to our instructor talk. These highly experienced professionals will teach most new paddling skills as we paddle and explore this beautiful wilderness area.
On 3 day trips we will be paddling single-person sea kayaks through the Franklin Island Wilderness Reserve inner island group of the 30,000 Islands of Georgian Bay. The adventure will start around 9:30 am at Snug Habour and end there around 4 pm on the last day.
On 5-day trips we will start the trip at Britt in Georgian Bay and travel with the possibility of seeing such island groups as the Churchill’s, Bustards, Foxes, Chickens and the French River Delta and take out 5 days later on the Key River at Hwy 69. The adventure will start around 9:30 am at Britt and end on the Key River and Hwy 69 around 4 pm on the last day.
You will need only your personal items and a sleeping bag. Waterproof Dry Bags will be supplied for your use and a complete suggested packing list will be provided upon booking.
We travel with only the best lightweight modern equipment with such amenities as outback ovens to bake fresh breads and goodies, comfortable two-person tents, and even a large bug tent for your comfort should it be needed. Those booking as a single can request a single tent.
Knowledge You’ll Gain
On our 5 day trips, we will also review basic navigational skills and how to plan a complete wilderness kayak trip, including how and where to find the best routes, maps, gear, and checklists. You’ll see how to plan menus and prepare, store, cook, and bake foods on a wilderness trip. How to prepare float plans, route plans, and emergency plans. What makes the best kayak packs, tents, sleeping bags, mattresses, stoves, cookware, tarps, saws, and lighting. What makes the best rain gear and clothing for wilderness kayaking, and how to stay warm dry, and comfortable.
There will be ample time each day to relax and explore the surrounding area, swim, fish or practice your paddling techniques that our Paddle Canada certified guides / instructors will be teaching you as we travel.

“We’re now a week removed from beautiful Georgian Bay, and a memorable weekend. On behalf of our group, I would like to personally thank WildernessAdventures.ca – We had the time of our lives. In only a few days, I feel we became good friends. The Paddle Canada certification was a bonus, the memories will last a lifetime. Can’t wait until my next kayaking adventure. I know you will be seeing us next year for the 5 day Kayak trip! “

“We returned from our trip with stories to tell! and the best tripping experience ever! Paul, Dee and Peter took very good care of us and showed us great techniques for paddling, cooking and island etiquette. The food was delicious and the equipment top notch but I can not say enough about the crew. They were the very best. Thanks for having such a great company. We are looking forward to our next adventure with you.”

“This is the morning after my 5 day kayak trip in Georgian bay. I’m glad to be home but even happier to have been part of such a great experience. Our guide was a wonderful resource of knowledge, skills, strength and devotion. Truly someone we could count on and look to for guidance and everything else we needed. She made our trip. I want to thank you also for providing the food and equipment which were very much appreciated. Your organization seems to have thought of every detail.”

“Thanks for a great trip. The beauty and tranquility of Georgian Bay go a long way to ease the frustrations and tensions of living in an urban setting. I will always miss the Bay –it’s truly a unique environment, and one I feel privileged to have been part of for a week. The knowledge, skills, and many competencies of your guide team made the trip all the more enjoyable. My best wishes to all Wilderness Adventures Canada staff who made my Georgian Bay paddling experience possible.”
